Dying for one’s convictions

In 1963, Thích Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist Monk, protested the persecution of Buddhists by the current government of South Vietnam. He sat down in a busy intersection in Saigon, had his brothers in the faith douse him with kerosene and light him on fire. While he burned, he sat serenely and quietly until he expired. Unsurprisingly, this was a catalytic moment that, beginning with the widespread dissemination of the breathtaking Pulitzer Prize winning photograph, started international political wheels in motion, which after much spinning, accomplished the righting of some wrongs.

Could you do the same?

I don’t care who you are, you have to be moved by that. I’m amazed by the courage that he had to choose to die for the greater good of his brothers and sisters of his faith, but he’s certainly not alone. One thinks of the long line of martyrs of the Christian faith beginning with Jesus’ own death on the cross, which was most efficacious of all sacrifices. But it makes me wonder, could I do the same? Could you do the same?

Living for your convictions

More than dying for your convictions, could you live for them? Do you know what your convictions are? Are you living your priorities? Why not? What has you unmoving? How can you get unstuck? Instead, let’s make you unstoppable. In short: Are you living the life you deeply want to live? If not, how can you maximize it?
